We’re doing something a little different his weekend. Instead of sitting at Westwood for 5 hours watching their 183 swimmers in heat after heat, we’re taking control and running the DCCL's very first virtual meet. Same rules, same competition… just faster, louder, and all Hurricanes.

Here are some details:

Q: What’s a virtual meet?

A: We swim at Hidden Creek, Westwood swims at their pool, and SwimTopia merges the results as if we were side by side

Q: When and where?

A: Hidden Creek Country Club – warm-up at 8:30 AM, meet starts at 9:00 AM. Keep an eye on SwimTopia as these times might change

Q: Will it feel like a real meet?

A: Totally – heats, timers, cheering, the works… just no sitting around watching 150 heats of Westwood kids swim

Q: Why are we doing this?

A: Honestly, I feel that it's better for our kids. We aren't easily intimidated but 183 vs 9 is a whole different level. We will control the pace, and we gain a home meet right before our Awards Banquet to end the regular season! 

Q: What do parents need to do?

A: Every parent will need to time. We will try to keep 3 timers in each lane as per the ByLaws

Q: How long will it take?

A: Way faster than a normal meet since it’s all Hurricanes, but we may introduce some fun relays for the kids

Q: Should we still cheer?

A: Absolutely – it’s still a competition, and Hurricanes pride (and volume) matter

Q: How will SwimTopia handle our times and scores? 

A: I'm glad you asked. SwimTopia built functionality for virtual meets during covid and kept it because it became popular for meets just like ours. It's now used widely for rain delays, interstate meets, and small teams vs large. 

Q: Has WCC agreed to this? 

A: I have worked closely with WCC reps as well as the DCCL President and Head Scorer to make sure this is legit and sanctioned by the league.  Everyone agrees that this is the best way to execute our Blue Division meet this year
